Where were these great deals when I was back in high school and prom dress hunting? Granted it wasn't that long ago that I too was looking for my prom or just any old high school dance dress but definitely didn't know of these great promotions to help offset the cost of fairly expensive single-use dresses.
This is information from the Cleveland area so I recommend contacting your local department store even if mentioned here to see if they are participating. If you know of a store in your area not mentioned here - comment and let us know!
From Cleveland.com...one of my favorite local publications that has a great 'fashion' department!
• Take your gown to any J.C. Penney location through Saturday, April 2, and receive a 20-percent-off coupon to use on a regular or sale-priced prom dress. Donated dresses will go to local after-school charities and be shared with girls in the community. *call your local J.C. Penney if not in the Cleveland area
• Lakewood Public Library will have dresses and accessories available for free from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 25 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 26 at the library's main branch, 15425 Detroit Ave. To donate an item, call 216-226-8275, ext. 140. *What a great opportunity if you have a dress laying around bring it in and swap it for something new - help others enjoy prom too!
• My Fairy Godmother accepts gowns, shoes, jewelry and handbags that are less than 5 years old and in excellent condition. Drop off at the Perfect Bride (19126 Old Detroit Road, Rocky River, 440-331-5113) or call Wendy Jones at 216-355-9710 to schedule an appointment at My Fairy Godmother in North Randall (4652 Warrensville Center Road, Suite 2, upstairs). The store is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays through prom season and sells new/gently worn formal gowns and accessories at a reduced price to low-income girls and their families. It will have a special sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 2, with dresses for $25 and shoes for $5.
Contact your local consignment shop as there are many great deals locally and sometimes even charity events that may be in the local paper. And have fun, prom prep is a great time!
