Treasury trends from Etsy...

I found these on Regretsy, but that site is all about Etsy and it's 'weirdness' basically.  It's a fun guilty pleasure of a site to follow, and is often good for a laugh.

Here's some image boards that I found with trends Steampunk and Typewriter jewelry and art.

Wordless Wednesday...Elizabeth Taylor

While the country still mourns the death of Elizabeth Taylor I think that truly enough time has gone by of seeing the classic ET photos.  What about all the photos from the past 20 or so years?  At least my age group any pictures we seen it was truly like watching a slow train wreck of what was once considered a fashion goddess.  During the week here's some pictures and a blog I came across that many of us may remember her for:

From Vinnie Rattolle's Blog...

A few random images I found on the World Stars Hollywood blog...

Love the dog!

And because we just want to preserve "eternal beauty" forever she dipped herself into some gold leafing for a photo opportunity with Michael Jackson.

Tuesday Trend: Canvas replaces leather...

As we were watching shows like Calvin Klein strut down the runway in the khaki African Safari sort of look another trend was also making it's re-debut, canvas.  Leather is taking a break this season for the familiar canvas rucksack material.  While these styles may remind you of some travels you may be planning for down under, they are a comfortable way to hike through the metro parks or to pack up to head to the local beach with the family.

Here's a few of our top picks:

Abercromie & Fitch - $16.62   (men's) (belt included!)

Urban Outfitters - $38

Hype - $20.99

Bass ProShops - Lotus Casual - $59.99

Adidas Men's Samba
- $29.98 (sale)
*I included this Adidas shoe because as many may know the common material for soccer shoes especially Adidas is leather

Prom 2010...Fashion tips from designer Lisa Malanij

Looking for some fashion advice for your prom fashions this year? Join local designer Lisa Malanij for a talk on this years fashions.  This is the first of a 3 part series to be held at the library.  I think this is a great opportunity for students to have a fun 'hands-on" fashion lesson from one of the top local designers.

Details from the press release on Cleveland.com:

Fashion designer Lisa Milanij will present “Upcycled Prom” at 2 p.m. March 26 at the West Park Branch of the Cleveland Public Library, 3805 W. 157th St., in Cleveland’s West Park neighborhood.

Milanij will discuss historical prom trends. She will show teens how to personalize new or gently used prom dresses.

This is the first of three free programs on proms.
Part 2, at 2 p.m. April 9, will show participants how to make accessories for the prom and part 3, at 2 p.m. May 7, will feature teens modeling their creations.

Saving money on prom! Money back!

Where were these great deals when I was back in high school and prom dress hunting?  Granted it wasn't that long ago that I too was looking for my prom or just any old high school dance dress but definitely didn't know of these great promotions to help offset the cost of fairly expensive single-use dresses.

This is information from the Cleveland area so I recommend contacting your local department store even if mentioned here to see if they are participating.  If you know of a store in your area not mentioned here - comment and let us know!

From Cleveland.com...one of my favorite local publications that has a great 'fashion' department!

• Take your gown to any J.C. Penney location through Saturday, April 2, and receive a 20-percent-off coupon to use on a regular or sale-priced prom dress. Donated dresses will go to local after-school charities and be shared with girls in the community.  *call your local J.C. Penney if not in the Cleveland area

• Lakewood Public Library will have dresses and accessories available for free from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 25 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 26 at the library's main branch, 15425 Detroit Ave. To donate an item, call 216-226-8275, ext. 140.  *What a great opportunity if you have a dress laying around bring it in and swap it for something new - help others enjoy prom too!

• My Fairy Godmother accepts gowns, shoes, jewelry and handbags that are less than 5 years old and in excellent condition. Drop off at the Perfect Bride (19126 Old Detroit Road, Rocky River, 440-331-5113) or call Wendy Jones at 216-355-9710 to schedule an appointment at My Fairy Godmother in North Randall (4652 Warrensville Center Road, Suite 2, upstairs). The store is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays through prom season and sells new/gently worn formal gowns and accessories at a reduced price to low-income girls and their families. It will have a special sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 2, with dresses for $25 and shoes for $5.

Contact your local consignment shop as there are many great deals locally and sometimes even charity events that may be in the local paper.  And have fun, prom prep is a great time!

Tuesday Trend: Hair Trends...

It's spring time not only do we like to spring up our lawns but also it's time to dig ourselves out of our winter sweaters and spruce up our looks - which usually starts with a fresh haircut!  Here's our favorite looks from the Spring 2011 hair reports...click the pictures for more details!

Fringe locks and bangs...layers are not just back, but still here.  This look creates a flowy look throughout the hair especially looking at it from a distance.  This look and hair trend actually reminds me of local blogger, Goodwill Huntingg.

Colors for the year are bold - "white" (which I call platinum, but that isn't the buzzword anymore to describe it) and bold reds.

Pixie cuts...are still in.  We are a world on the go and in a hurry and this is one of the nice quick fixes that are even stylish when left messy.

For Japan with Love...

Friday five will return next week with favorite from a local artists works...

Although Japan may be one of the worlds richest country it is complete devastation what is happening there.  My brother who lives on the West coast has been 'grounded' from the biological research vessels he goes out to see on due to the waves being too high.  This is truly affecting everyone...I'm starting to think the little bit of snow we get here for a few months is nothing!

Here's a few images from Newport, Oregon that my brother shared on facebook of the tall waves crashing in.

Monday madness...check out this video.

Hello Everyone!  Hope you all had a great weekend today is a day of true madness wrapping up a lot of midterm related things.  Don't forget there is the show this week on the 17th at Kent State.

I was recently introduced to an re-emerging musician that this music blew me away I loved the fashions in it, and I think you would to!  Enjoy!  I think they are practical to Ohio too - sometimes you see fashions that are just outrageous but even starting out with the first pair of shoes in the start I about jumped through the monitor wanting to nab them.

Friday's feel good story...Ohio Native Designer for Down Syndrome

While  cruising through the Cleveland.com website I came across a story that truly is one touches your heart as you heard how it benefits others in a somewhat unconventional way.

I love this idea all of us in our lives know someone that would benefit from this or of we don't we hear about the concerns of friends that have family members that do.  I had a friend with a younger sibling that was grateful for a mother who was a novice seamstress to be able to alter clothing - this is definitely a much better solution and supports a local designers and business!  While I did read on the blog that they work with factories in China to make the clothing I hope one day when the textile industry picks back up in the US they will consider working with US mills and factories.

Tuesday Trend & Store Review: Green in Ohio

With this warm weather, all signs point to spring. Which reminds me of green. Eco-friendly clothing and accessories have taken a whole new turn in the fashion world. As we all know, it’s everybody’s job to take care of the earth and recycle. These eco-friendly clothing are so cute though, you’ll just have another excuse to go shopping. A local store, Revive Fair Trade have featured some cute and affordable options for us. They are currently at two locations in Cleveland Heights and Lyndhurt.

Organic Urban Zip Cardigan - $124.00

Who knew doing the environmentally right thing was so fashion forward. This darling green sweater drapers beautiful and is made with all natural cotton and low impact dyes.

Organic Knit Dress - $138.00

With a wide range of styles, you can even dress eco-friendly for formal events with this little black dress. Every girl needs one, but not everyone has a green one they can brag about. This elegant dress works great with a pair of kitten heels, which also come in recyclable options.

EcoChicks Earthwear also makes green clothing, including shirts, tunics, yoga wear and graphic totes. It’s a green way to be fun and functional. This big bag will fit just about anything you need to carry throughout the day. The picture show below is a graphic of one of several totes.

Tote Bag - $129.00
