Tuesday Trend: New Year's Eve Makeup

This week is dedicated to New Year's Eve fashion, but we can't forget along with the gorgeous jewelry and dresses your makeup!  While it would be nice to always have a makeup artist on hand (such as Joy Macke from Columbus' at State of the Face Makeup Artistry) we did find a few videos of looks that we found doable and fun for the night.

This video by Michelle Phan is easy to follow and very well put together, while she doesn't mention her makeup brands or picks she does briefly flash the bottle to sneak a peak.

I also recommend checking out her channel for other videos that also focus on fashion!

I love Spell Cosmetics - and they are an Ohio company!  While this video is a little silly this collection and Jewel Thief would be my top picks for the holiday season.  They collections can be ordered on the Spell Cosmetics website.  Also an item I didn't get to pick up but is on my wish list is the body gloss by Spell Cosmetics - I like the idea of mica and non-sticky liquid, so long are the days of oil and glitter.

Even though this video was recorded last year I think it's a great classic smokey glittered look.

Glitz and Glamour for the New Year

Whether you call it being iced or glitzed up, New Years Eve is one of those holidays where you can freely roam where you wouldn't on most occasions with the glitz and glamour.  I think back to when my mom and aunt spent the entire day getting ready for the New Years Eve ball, their fancy jewelry came out, sweet smelling perfumes and of course glitter.  Literally lots of glitter from a bottle - I think we spent months cleaning glitter out of tile grout for that one night of fun.  What has changed?  Not a whole lot, maybe a little less glitter but actually now we just wear it in different ways.

Sterling Silver Compass Mini Cubic Zirconia Pave Pendant
$ 19.99   -   Macy's

Diamond & Sterling Silver Heart Necklace
$ 589  - Macy's

Fashions Inspired by the Spirit of Christmas

Get invited to any Ugly Sweater Parties this year? Parties are fun, but is anyone else sick of seeing those red bright sweaters with reindeer on them? You don’t have to dress obnoxious on Christmas Eve to be in the Christmas spirit. You just have to get creative. Because aren’t you sick of wearing that tacky sweater for the fifth time, there’s no reason why you can’t turn heads and stop hearts in Christmas attire.
Here are some Christmas classics inspired into outfits.

Ralph Lauren - Abbey Hooded Satin Down Jacket $498.00

One of my personal favorites is watching White Christmas, so let’s take the obvious respond. Wear all white, but mix it with silver or gold, or cashmere or a puffer vest. It’s not every day you can wear all white, so sparkle like diamonds when you do.

Tracy Reese - Jersey Prim Shirt Dress -  $268.00

How many of you want a Red Rider BB gun for Christmas? Not many. Let’s celebrate A Christmas Story another way then.  Have you been to the Christmas Story house in Cleveland?  So go old school, dress classy, and enjoy dressing up. Lace, polka dots, and floral were all hugely popular in the 40’s and are still a classic for traditional and not traditional parties.

Sequin Puff Skirt Dress -  $146.16

Want Christmas to mean everything it meant when you were a kid. When everything was wide eyes and exciting. Bring it back. Look like the brilliant and beautiful, O Christmas Tree. Sequin is in style and use it as your inspiration.  Christmas trees are decked out with lights, colors, glitz and topped with an angel. Incorporate it into your outfit any way you can. Christmas has always been traditionally a fun and silly holiday - live it up!

Shopping Madness...the traffic addition.

(Interesting article linked to pic about how an app Bump links your shopping habits!)

Who hasn't been stuck in traffic yet this holiday season?  Oh you lucky fashionista, you!  Yesterday I thought it would be quite the venture to head down to Canton on The Strip and truly while I was forewarned I didn't heed the warning cause I figured I can truly weather anything.  Well, wow was that traffic horrible and I learned my lesson that as my friend recommended if going there go between 10am - 11am.

While in stopped traffic, because never will driving, I browsed a few apps and listened to some fashion reviews on my new trial Sirius radio that I got for Christmas.  While I don't consider myself "needy" for satellite radio it was fun to here the talk and banter while sitting in traffic.

While passing the fun in stopped traffic here are my favorite tips to do while not driving, really please I don't want emails about how you rear ended the pretty Mercedes while checking out style.com.   Enjoy and have a safe shopping experience!

Check out Cosmo Radio on the go in your car:

And also Style.com's phone app! (free!)  There are several out there, including the ebay app, that are my favorite but this is an easy one to put down when in a hurry to excel in traffic.

Coats of the Rainbow

Baby its cold outside, but that’s no reason to stay locked inside all day. So let’s make it look good. Get your hats, gloves, scarfs, and coats. If you’re lost in a sea of zippers and hoods, this should narrow it down.

The Pea Coat: Whether it’s double breasted, short, long, bright red, or grey, it works. This is the perfect coat for any women. Just find the size that fits you and a color you adore. This coat can be found in a million colors and sizes. The best part is it’s great to wear to the office, shopping, and then to that fancy restaurant you’ve had your eye on.

Pea Coat - Gap - $98

The Trench Coat: It’s classic and cute, and you can’t miss looking slim and put together in a trench. Perfect for keeping you warm when the snows flying down and you’re stuck walking through the parking lot or meeting friends for lunch.

Trench Coat - Saks Fifth Avenue - $174

The Puffer Coat: It’s not just for skiing anymore. You may find this one a little harder to pull off, but it’s really not. Neutral colors are the most ideal. But if you love being the spotlight; then go for that blue that matches your eyes. There’s no way you’ll be cold in one of these beautiful things.

Puffer Jacket -Calvin Klein - $99

The Parka: Hey who says you can’t wear a Parka? They and defiantly in style in Ohio, where it’s always a winter wonderland. A lot of times the hood and/or fur is adjustable and comes on and off. It’s a great addiction to your wardrobe and a wonder to have when you’re partially snowed in and still have to leave your house.

Parka - Saks Fifth Avenue: $815

Sold...!! Rolling Acres Mall.

Anyone else remember roaming around Rolling Acres Mall, or being in the Dance, Dance, Revolution tournaments in the gaming arcade?

After many years of struggling to sell the mall has finally been purchased as reported by the Akron Beacon Journal by an investment group from California for the price of $3 million.  While the article mentions it's not likely to reopen as a mall it will be a "business" center which will house office, call centers, etc.

Read the full article here on the Akron Beacon Journal's website:   Company Spends $3 Million for mall.

Here's a video I found a few months back when trying to find what the inside of the mall would currently look like. This video was shot legally - OhioFashionista.com does not condone trespassing to have such adventures.

In honor of Pearl Harbor...Military Trends

In memory and honor of Pearl Harbor, military trends...

Pearl Harbor affected each and everyone of us differently - the majority of OhioFashionista.com  readers may of had a grand parent or even great grandparent that were in the military at the time.
Military fashions have had a impact on the trends list for the past several seasons, and recently been seeing fusions of military inspired fashion on the racks and runway.

INC International Concepts Faux Fur Removable Trim Military Coat - $89.99

These look nice and warm, but I think the 12 inches of snow will still flow over the boot!

Steve Madden 'Hoood' Boot - $129.95

Even leggings have military fusion!

Xhilaration® Juniors Legging with Military Tabs - $8.99

Hope everyone is staying warm, this snowy winter blast has been bitter and a great opportunity to pull out the big guns in winter apparel.

Today: The Evolution of Fashion (Cleveland)

Details from the press release:

When: Friday, December 3rd  -  8pm - 2am
Where: The Velvet Dog
1280 West 6th Street
Cleveland, OH 44113
Tickets: $10 / $20 VIP
Age: 21+ only -- Proper dress required.

The Evolution of Fashion is a decadent feast for the mind and a manifestation of fashion through time. The Evolution of Fashion is unlike any other fashion show you have experienced before. Generally when one thinks about fashion, evolution does not come to mind. However, fashion is simply a manifestation of various trends throughout time. And just as mankind has evolved, so has fashion.

Motamia means “Women of Wealth” and throughout this fashion evolution Motamia will innovatively illustrate through clothing how not only how women have evolved, but also helped their fellow man evolve into something we have only dreamed of. This is not fantasy but rather a time portal creatively stitching the past with the present. So sit back and prepare to be transported to an uncharted world where fashions of Motamia reign Supreme.

Commentary: Cavs fans vs. Lebron James

Today was the much anticipated game again the Miami Heat, but most notoriously against LeBron James.  While tickets were $150-$6k each I decided I would most relaxed with the best view on my television screen playing watching friends play couch coach.  While the game was less than stellar the energy of the crowd was amazing and while everything was censored including signs and apparel coming into the Gund Arena there was definitely some shirts that are mention worth for their creativity.

Here are a few favorites spotted in the crowd:

(Shopping source unknown)

Skreened - $23.99

(Shopping source unknown)

Editors note:  Some of these shirts were seen randomly through the crowd and do not know of a direct source, there are several sources available if searched through Google.  Happy shopping!
