Friday Five: Fashionable Stocking Stuffers

0 comments
Still wrestling your way through crowds to find those last minute deals that haven't been snatched up by the early morning shoppers?  I went to a small town plaza and, it was dead!  I was relatively surprised, but I guess the super secret trick is to avoid big box retailers and go local - of course!  I managed to find a few "only one left" deals that were still around - including my FlipUltra HD camera, I'm very excited!  I've already got videos of the pups, of course couldn't resist.

Here's OhioFashionista.com's favorite stocking stuffers to add to your list:

Leg Warmers on Etsy (eco-friendly!) - prices based on style

Flip Video Cameras - $99+ (variety)

Nouba Rainbow Eyeliner - $18+

Temptu Dereon Temporary Tattoos - Limited Edition  -  $ 34

Recycled 3-Strand Akili Bracelet - $ 11

Lana de Flor -  Wooster, Ohio
This past weekend at a conference about sustainable textiles I was fortunate enough to enjoy good conversation with Debora Galaz the artist behind Lana de Flor . Debora creates beautiful felted works including flowers (pins), soaps, hats, jewelry and much more.  Deborah found her love for felting while staying at home with her adorable children and was looking for artistic therapy and release.

Friday Five: Fashion Emergency Kit

1 comments
The past few days with the crummy weather has really been the days I'm glad I keep a few spare things in my car everything from shoes, nail polish, safety pins...and much more.

5.  Shoes:  The selection of shoes in your "kit" could depend on the season or if you have enough room take heels and/or boots.  Heels can go well with any outfit in a pinch or boots can either keep your feet dry from the rain or snow.

4.  Nail Polish & Remover Wipes:  It's inevitable you're either going to scuff a nail going out of the salon (I do this too often unfortunately) or chip up your nails after doing a little bit of housework.  While remover wipes may not seem crucial it's also a great thing to have to take ink off your fingers - dual purpose!

3.  Miniatures: First Aid & Sewing Kit and Brush: Never know when you'll need a quick band-aid (refill with clear) or sew a button on your shirt that got yanked off before heading into an important meeting - since we all know that's the most opportune time!

2.  Fashion Tape: Fashion tape comes in all sizes and widths;  recently I've found they can also be bought in flat strips to just slip into your purse or wallet.  They are great on everything from the shirt that won't lay closed or the hem that may of accidentally dropped or torn.

1.  Cloth: Towel and Blanket:   For good reason would I like to mention both of these as both have saved me in a pinch.  A towel is a great thing to have around in case you get stuck in rain and need to wipe yourself down, or if you spill your favorite morning java and need to wipe it up.  A blanket comes in handy in the event that you end up stuck in in-climate weather such as stuck in a snow bank waiting on a tow truck to rescue you after a long day at work.

Mark the Calendar: Compassion form Fashion (Beachwood)

0 comments

Beachwood - near Cleveland, details from their press release:

Beachwood Place is launching the holiday shopping season with an evening of freebies, discounts and entertainment, all with a charitable tie. On Saturday, Nov. 20, the mall will hold its second-annual Compassion from Fashion event to benefit The Gathering Place, a community-based cancer support center with two Northeast Ohio locations.

In addition to a bevy of special offers, freebies and giveaways, the evening also affords shoppers an opportunity to see a host of local celebrities. A 7 p.m. fashion show features Coleen Skeabeck (a fan-favorite from Biggest Loser: Families), Maureen Kyle (WKYC Anchor/Reporter), Carrie Young (Host of WKYC’s new show Flash Mob), Kathleen Cochrane (Former Fox 8 Reporter), Tim Richards (DJ at Q104) and Desiray McCray (DJ at WDOK). They will be joined by cancer survivors in showcasing the mall’s hottest fashions.

With the purchase of a Compassion from Fashion ticket ($20 pre-sale, $25 at the door), shoppers also will receive:

  • $10 Beachwood Place Gift Card (first 500 ticket purchasers; while supplies last);

  • $10 McCormick & Schmick's Dining Certificate (first 500 ticket purchasers; while supplies last);

  • $10 Next Gift Card, a men’s and women’s fashion store (first 500 ticket purchasers; while supplies last);

  • Free food from Maggiano’s Little Italy courtesy of five special food stations positioned across the mall, including make-your-own pasta, salad and fruit bar stations; a carving station; an antipasto bar; and a dessert bar, along with passed hors d’oeuvres and cash bars;

“Last year this special event raised more than $10,000 for those facing cancer in our local communities, and this year we’re hoping to raise even more,” says Heidi Yanok, senior marketing manager, Beachwood Place. “Shoppers can easily re-coup the ticket price with the $10 mall and $10 McCormick & Schmick’s gift certificates alone, not to mention the free food from Maggiano’s, the opportunity to see some local celebrities and hundreds of dollars in possible savings from the exclusive retailer discounts.”

Below are just a few incredible exclusive offers available as part of the event. More will be announced through the mall’s website (www.BeachwoodPlace.com) in the coming weeks.

Making his "Marc" on history...

I'll be honest I love finding fun pics of Marc Jacobs that I just had to share.  Bringing charisma to the fashion world, he is quite a character and always brings his own unique sense of style and personality to everything he does.

Here's a fun picture of Marc Jacobs, in drag on the latest Industrie cover.

Enjoy!
