Halloween is around the corner!

Who's ready for Halloween?  Not me!  This year has gone by all too fast and even tho I like to make my Halloween costume every year just for fun as my mother did when I was a child I am afraid this year I'm just running out of time.  But I did browse through some possible quick Halloween costume suggestions and think just for craftiness fun quite possibly a version of Lady Gaga's meat dress in cloth may be in the front running.

Here's a great tutorial that I found which I think gets one of the best looks in the end, also the one that I would follow myself.

Halloween is  a time of year to have fun and be fashionable, what are your costume ideas?  Would love to hear from you, comment below!

Columbus' the Bag Lady Blog

I will be in Dayton next week, which somehow led me to The Dispatches feature blog page roll call and well that's my addiction spending a good hour or so reading through local blogs.  I came across "The Bag Lady" - for those in Columbus this blog is such an invaluable treat!

It's not just food, but there is fashion and clothing too - check out her tabs down the side!  Wished I live closer, but I highly recommend this blog to Columbus area fashionistas!

Futuristic Find on Friday...Faceless Watch

A little bit of futuristic appeal is fun gifts for everyone!  Fashion sometimes can be all about throwing the known traditions out the window, and these watches do just that.  I was fortunate enough to be able to see this watch on the streets, while it's not made in Ohio it was a great local find on the streets!
"This watch catches all the looks, everyone is amazed that it is a watch for one and not just an industrial-ish looking wrist band.  I bought it with the intent to give it as a gift, and ended up keeping it for myself - don't tell my brother that but I ended up falling in love with it."   John P. - Chagrin Falls, Ohio

The kicker...is they are each under $15!  Quite an interesting unique gift that is affordable too.

Wordless Wednesday: Josh Cribbs

(Nearly)  Wordless Wednesday:  Josh Cribbs
Remember a some months back when I featured a former Cleveland and Akron area fashion style icon Lebron James.  Well since Lebron has been dethroned and out from the shadows has stepped Cleveland Browns player Josh Cribbs.

Check out these pictures we dug out of Cribbs' tweets for your enjoyment.

Nice casual look...the lamp creates some interesting decor too.

From Josh's Twitter page, the background image:

"CEO" Josh Cribbs is plotting his take-over...

At the Glitz and Blitz Fashion Show in May of 2009...oldie but we love the look.

All photos have been tweeted and are in Josh Cribbs twitpic account.  Visit Josh Cribbs on Twitter and send him get well wishes since his latest injury, we need him back!

Manly Monday...Meet George the Tailor

Today I did some menswear shopping with one of my guy friends who wanted to "update" his wardrobe, which was truly more like kick some of the college garb to the side and get a career worthy wardrobe.  We'll call him Mike, Mike's a mid-20s character that growing up enjoyed skateboarding and the outdoors in general - we all know those guys sometimes the ones that have the hardest time growing up (and Mike would admit this!).  Well Mike recently landed a nice job and now has to wear corporate attire - suit, tie etc etc.  Well after striking out a lot on his own he asked me what I recommend, well not being the best of person to ask I asked him where he has shopped - he listed Macy's, Men's Warehouse, JCPenny's the normal mall type shops.  Well he didn't think to look AROUND the mall in the local plazas where we went into what he call "menswear" heaven - Burlington Coat Factory.  Well more than just coats he was excited about the variety of ties, suits, pants, shirts all in variety of colors - I think I got him addicted and we literally looked at everything on every shelf.

BUT did you know this Burlington has a little hidden secret tucked away by the men's dressing room?  Oh yes, his name is George (that is George's real name) and he's a custom tailor.  Let me just say, we love George.  George is an old-world tailor that quickly fitted Mike, altered his suits and in a fair swoop we were out the door in a matter of hours and quite inexpensively might I add.  "George the Tailor" an older gentle man very Europeanesque (but American, or at least no accent) only works on site everyday BUT Thursday and Sundays from approximately 10:30-5pm.

Manager Julie said about "George the Tailor", "Everybody loves George!  He's been with us forever and if we can clone him we would.  He's a great value to the store and community.  He works with clothes that is bought here, and outside of the store cause we truly can't keep him such a hidden gem that we like to see him offer his services to the public."  Ask for George at the store via telephone or go in and visit him, his work space is by the men's dressing room - he works on ladies wear too!  330.920.4213

When I told George that I fell in love with his personality and would blog about him he smiled a nice casual smile and just kept right on pinning.

This is not an advert for Burlington but more a PSA about their tailor, George who truly is a vital part of the fashion industry in Akron.

Pop up stores are emerging...

The idea of pop up stores in retail outlets is "brilliant" for businesses that don't like to sign a lease but want to be involved in the holiday spiriti of retail.

One such retailer is C.L.E. Clothing now in Waterloo Arts District.

Know of any other pop-up stores in your area?  Let us know, comment or email - editor@ohiofashionista.com!

Thursday Trend: Animal prints have not left the building...

While doing some people watching this week, my favorite hobby off of a perch with a smoothie in the mall or just out and about in town taking notes I noticed that easily 5 out of 7 had some sort of animal print, and I mean literally took a tally on napkins.  While animal prints have always been a staple throughout dating back to prehistoric time for even precolonial when it was a luxury to have a fur or print symbolizing status they haven’t gone away and are much more widely available since the creation of synthetic furs.

Just like a variety of polka dots or other geometric shapes, animal prints are a staple that haven't left the runway - or even the hearts of Ohioans young and old.

$24.99 - Target

Granted this boot isn't animal print, I really like the look of it warm and delicate.

Even though animal prints are everywhere I'm glad to report that H&M didn't embrace them in the fall sweater collection...I love the gradient look this year in sweater patterns.

Old Navy - 1 Day sale on Jackets....$16

Just saw a commercial for some nice looking fall jackets that are all on sale for 1 day at Old Navy as part of the Sweet 16 Birthday Celebration.  By no means would I call them winter jackets but for fall temps they aren't bad looking - and colorful!

Fine print details state: In store only, limit 5 per customer, select styles...etc.

Happy treasure hunting!  I unfortunately won't get to hunt up a cute fall jacket as this is also a big weekend in the alpaca industry in Ohio with a weekend of seminars and a fun auction.

PS:  I just read on Old Navy's facebook wall that someone was able to get the same deal online and received free shipping over  $50.  I can't verify this, but it's worth a try!

Here's more of their Sweet 16 special details - Old Navy Website.
