Today I did some menswear shopping with one of my guy friends who wanted to "update" his wardrobe, which was truly more like kick some of the college garb to the side and get a career worthy wardrobe. We'll call him Mike, Mike's a mid-20s character that growing up enjoyed skateboarding and the outdoors in general - we all know those guys sometimes the ones that have the hardest time growing up (and Mike would admit this!). Well Mike recently landed a nice job and now has to wear corporate attire - suit, tie etc etc. Well after striking out a lot on his own he asked me what I recommend, well not being the best of person to ask I asked him where he has shopped - he listed Macy's, Men's Warehouse, JCPenny's the normal mall type shops. Well he didn't think to look AROUND the mall in the local plazas where we went into what he call "menswear" heaven - Burlington Coat Factory. Well more than just coats he was excited about the variety of ties, suits, pants, shirts all in variety of colors - I think I got him addicted and we literally looked at everything on every shelf.
BUT did you know this Burlington has a little hidden secret tucked away by the men's dressing room? Oh yes, his name is George (that is George's real name) and he's a custom tailor. Let me just say, we love George. George is an old-world tailor that quickly fitted Mike, altered his suits and in a fair swoop we were out the door in a matter of hours and quite inexpensively might I add. "George the Tailor" an older gentle man very Europeanesque (but American, or at least no accent) only works on site everyday BUT Thursday and Sundays from approximately 10:30-5pm.
Manager Julie said about "George the Tailor", "Everybody loves George! He's been with us forever and if we can clone him we would. He's a great value to the store and community. He works with clothes that is bought here, and outside of the store cause we truly can't keep him such a hidden gem that we like to see him offer his services to the public." Ask for George at the store via telephone or go in and visit him, his work space is by the men's dressing room - he works on ladies wear too! 330.920.4213
When I told George that I fell in love with his personality and would blog about him he smiled a nice casual smile and just kept right on pinning.
This is not an advert for Burlington but more a PSA about their tailor, George who truly is a vital part of the fashion industry in Akron.
