Thursday Trend: Chunky Sweaters

I don't know about you, but I have definitely been hiding in my chunky sweaters this week waiting for the return of Ohio's beautiful Indian summer.  Watching the runways while still bundled in a sweater this past spring I was excited to see that chunky sweaters are still around, but a little different.  One thing I had noticed was there are more belt closure sweaters instead of the button down in the front - small changes.

Here's some of my favorite looks locally:

Target - $29.99-19.99  (click on individual sweater for a direct link)

Macy's - $39.99   (Sale price!)

Also I can't copy it to here but check out the intro video with the chunky sweaters over on H&M's webpage!

Fashion News: 5 Below = 3 Grand Openings this Weekend

I'll be honest never heard of this store, still todays news came out that there would be a grand opening in Columbus which I then noticed there is also 2 other grand openings slated this week also in Aurora and Fairlawn.

The many grand openings for the Philadelphia based company throughout the states is spurred by the $26 billion dollar investment by Boston company Advent International and other investors.

While digging for some opinions on what other bloggers have said about the 5 Below stores and trying to find out if it's just another Dots which has been in the area for well over 20 years at least.

Quote from the Store Front Blog/Syracuse.com:
“We have thousands of items that are trend-right, quality-right and everything kids want from $1 to $5,” said Tom Vellios, co-founder and chief executive officer of Five Below. “We price it so they can buy a lot with their allowance money.”

Dear Readers - have you visited a Five Below yet?   What did you think, what was your favorite find?  Leave us a comment with what you think!

New York Fashion Week...LIVE streamed!

Well this week is the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, and while I didn't get to do my retreat to the 'Fashion Mecca' this year I have been following it religiously on twitter and watching the official live feed.

For those that have been following what's your favorite collection so far?  Would you agree with some commentary I heard that this NYFW is "boring" in design?

Would love to hear from you, just hit comment!

Cleaning up the lake shores also means a loss of sea glass...

Many jewelers including local Kimberly Monaco Designs, who was featured a few months back, relies on the many treasures that can be found on the shores of Lake Erie - sea glass.  Well even though on a positive note it's great to know that the shores are nearly litter free, but that also means a loss of these glittering treasures.

Excerpt from an article about sea glass from Starnews Online the about Lake Erie:
“Finding sea glass is like finding diamonds anymore on the beach,” said Joan Croft-Jones, a Carolina Beach watercolorist and sculptor who also makes jewelry. But the glass in most of her creations, including earrings at le Soleil and neck pieces at Wilmington Art Gallery on Castle Street, are smoothed shards she found at Lake Erie in Ohio.

Despite the discouraging lack of sea glass locally, Croft-Jones looks for pieces for herself whenever she walks on the beach.

“I guess you can buy tumblers and tumble glass and actually buy it commercially, but I prefer to find my own,” she said. “There's just something more magical when you find it yourself.”

Cleveland Clinic gets help from Diane von Furstenberg

The Cleveland Clinic has not only been getting constant facelifts on their buildings but this time their hospital gowns got a new look from designer Diane von Furstenberg.

Meet the Diane van Furstenberg hospital gown...the former gown tied in the back, this gown ties on the side.

I wonder how many gowns will be stashed away in purses as a piece of the new DVF hospital collection.

...I told my friends if I end up in the hospital bring me this coat to go home in from the DVF collection.

News: Economy on an uprise? Cleveland opens new stores despite "depression"...

I just read a few days ago that Macedonia Commons is still expanding!  Good news for those fans of Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Dots, Rue 21, Five Below (what's this??) and a few others to be released.  They join the already established Kohl's and the like at Macedonia Commons.  Unfortunately none are directly Ohio based  but will be employing Ohioans in the long run.

Route 8's construction is finally looking like it's near complete, but the new construction begins on the closest shopping center.  Years ago that was barely a question near the ski resorts where to go to either find food or lodging, but now there is quite the selection.

With the creation of store openings and new jobs President Obama will have much to talk about at his visit on Wednesday to Cleveland.
