Top Easter Fashion Picks

Mmm...who wouldn't want a dress from chocolate?

Designer Richard de Chazal used 44 lbs of chocolate to design this dress which was unveiled today at an Easter fashion show in Australia.  The dress was themed from the movie Alice and Wonderland and was said to be his most difficult design according to the Gold Coast Bulletin

While that isn't practical for many one of the best parts about Easter is the adoreable outfits!  Here are a few of our top picks:

Adoreable traditional outfits for babies and toddlers - and a must have matching jacket as it's generally not warm enough in Ohio to go completely sleeveless (unfortunately!).

While those are cute and traditional after a few years once kids start hitting that stubborn age they want less frill and a bit more contemporary like these:

Will Cleveland say 'auf wiedersehen' to Hugo Boss factory?

Rumors have been milling for months, and fingers have been crossed that the 375 workers at the menswear Hugo Boss plant in Brookpark will be able to keep their jobs still a little while longer will negotiations are being made with the German designer brand.  Rumors are the company wants to shut down the factory to take the operations across seas to China.

Cleveland used to have a bustling clothing industry with knitting mills, sewing factories and much more that left either the Great Depression of the '50s or what many are calling The Recession of the 2ks.

Actor and Activist Danny Glover has recently come on board to help save the Hugo Boss factory, and was recently in town for a press conference and morale rally at the plant.  Glover also led a campaign at the March 7, Oscar's to not wear Hugo Boss tuxedos at the event, while noticeably successful Hugo Boss still says they were unswayed and plan to close the plant in April.  In short, Hugo is telling us who's the boss and what they want to do for themselves.

Show Review: Cleveland: Lexus Style Show

Cleveland:  Yesterday we trekked (yes in the snow) to Cleveland and watched the Lexus Style Show at the State Theater in Playhouse Square.  The night started off with a gracious buffet of various hors d’oeuvres, which I was in love with the various flavors of humus that the Vegiterranean had provided in the mix.  The shopping vendors included local shops that not only had local fashions but also national labels that are eco-friendly, which was the theme for the night with the Hybrid Lexus vehicles.  The shops were truly bustling which led didn't allow for much browsing and shopping as there were truly bodies everywhere - good thing they are local which would make it easier to revisit another day at their storefront.

Revive, Lara Miller, and Sanity all provided the fashions for the show which was about an hour-long, and included intermissions performed by the Inlet Dance Theater dancers.  The fashion show featured apparel from all seasons starting with winter which grumbles from the audience were "too dark"  and "no color aside from those that are dark and dismal."  The other seasons featured a variety of color palettes in accessories and apparel, below are photos of my favorites.  Don't mind the poor photo quality as they were taken with a BlackBerry.

In honor of health care - designed bandages.

While many were watching the updates that came across Twitter, CNN, or FOXNews yesterday about the passage of the Health Care Reform, I was busy looking at the suits and dresses that the representatives were wearing.  I spotted one representative wearing a band-aid, which I found to be funny and ironic being a great debate over the future of our country's health care.

In honor of health care, here's a few fun designer and wacky designed bandages that kids and adults can  enjoy.

Leather and "Luis" Vuitton bandages from Hurt Couture

You can also buy designer bandages (and other novelties) at the Retro Rooster which a local retro 'outfitter' that has a shop at local art shows where I found them or in their online store.

Saturday Shopping Ventures - The Market Path (Akron)

Highland Square in Akron has always been known as a fun place to venture through antique shops, catch a movie, have lunch and much more.  A few years ago upon breaking new construction many locals wondered what would be coming into this small plaza which truly "stuck out" from the other shops that had older storefronts dating back to the early to mid 1900s.  In these new  shops came a shop that is truly a diamond in the rough, I never would of expected this shop to be there but it is truly so unique that it has quickly made its way onto my favorites list.

The Market Path is located at 833 W. Market St in Akron 44303 and is "a mission and ministry of First Grace United Church of Christ in Akron" that is "committed to offering you fairly traded quality products, handmade by world and local artisans and local farmers."   I even found some artists that I had grown up with and went to college with having artwork featured in the store - I was truly excited!  There is a great variety of things for the home, jewelry and fashion in the store all unique to itself.

Local artist Lady Dragonfly's woven bead bracelets  & an interior view of the store.

Summer Must-Haves: Maternity Fashions

1) The “Little” Black Dress

Every woman, pregnant or not, should own at least one simple black dress.  The empire Wrap dress from Isabella Oliver for $175.

2) The Nursing Tank

This wardrobe staple can be worn during and after pregnancy. Every new mother I know lives in their nursing tanks for the first few weeks after giving birth. Here are two great options:

Splurge, at just below $39, The Glamour Mom Nursing Tank with Lace from Glamourmom.com
or
Deal, at around $17, The Gilligan and O’Malley Nursing Tank from Target

3) A GREAT pair of jeans.

I found my maternity jeans at Old Navy for $30. The low-rise waist and fantastic material make these a comfy and stylish option throughout pregnancy and into the first few months post-partum.

Nearly, Wordless Wednesday - Spring Accessories

Spring is officially in the air!  Click the photos for more details...

You can find and purchase bow, and headband accessories handmade at StyleSmith on Etsy.  Hot Topic is on top of this trend with Bunny Ears in their stores.

Fringe is hot this spring and can be found at store's like Rod's in Columbus or like this fringe Marc Jacobs handbag.

Big, chunky, colorful fun jewelry is essential to this spring's jewelry collection.  Truly walking around any mall you shouldn't have any trouble finding any as majority of retailers have jumped on this bandwagon.

Two for Tuesday: Menswear

I think most Ohioians would agree that we tend to dress differently then the rest of the US, at least that has been observations I have heard on the street.  Is it that a good excuse for how we look? No, but we have always liked the beat of our own drum, and comfort is king.

These two looks which are heavy in denim would be considered to be more practical and versatile in Ohio.

But these trends referred to as "nomad" below leaves me curiously wondering which region of the US would favor them, but truly couldn't see any Ohioian wearing much from these collections.

Great article on what makes up Nomad fashion at fashionbeans.com by Brad Palmer (trend depicted above)

Shopping in Columbus...Rod's Western Palace

Curiousity always kills the cat, if I was a cat I would of been dead long ago.  Down the road from my hotel in Columbus is a horse on a stick, literally.  This horse on a stick is outside of a store called Rod's Western Palace which could truly be called the super center of western stores.  I was quite curious as I truly have never been in a western store, and there is none that I know of in the northern part of the state.  WOW - I was blown a way there is soo much in here everything from clothing, jewelry, housewares and much more!

Some of my favorites:

Visit the store:
3099 Silver Drive, Columbus  (map)

You can also check out influences from the "wild west" on the Spring 2010 runways!
