OhioFashionista.com's Favorite 2011 Oscar Looks!

Sharon Stone killed it in this sleek black dress - compared to the past she just doesn't look like herself - luckily they captioned the image!  Gorgeous look for her in Dior.

This outfit by Calvin Klein did Gwyneth Platrow good.  The long sleek look with the keyhole neckline is gorgeous - however the bottom wrinkled hem leads me to think of some last minute seam ripping that never got ironed out but regardless the rest makes up for it.

Looks we think that fell short of the mark this year...

Cate Blanchett looks like she has not just popcorn on a possible Christmas tree but also is tempting the person behind her with popcorn on her collar.

Who puts a little girl, in a little dress with big ol'mamas heels?  Looks like Hailee Steinfeld is playing dress up from her mother's closet.  I think her stylist needs to take a better look at what other young starlettes are wearing - ie Kristen Stewert.  I just don't agree with the very young, but very adult heel look - she can walk the walk but is the dress talking the talk?

These opinions are from OhioFashionista.com and are intended for entertainment purposes.

Friday Fun...Oscars! Fashion faux pas...

All eyes will be on Hollywood this weekend as celebrities strut their stuff down the red carpet for the 2011 Oscars.  While there are some truly beautiful and amazing fashions that come down the runway there are also some truly amazing flops also.  There are lessons to learn from the "flops" and one of my favorite websites to follow is the "Wonderwall" at Msn.com that shows us those that failed and what to watch for.

Here are some fun reminders from 2010 Oscars from the "Wonderwall."

Did you know that Cleveland is having it's own Oscar viewing party?  Tis true, the Cleveland Film Commission is having a Road to the Red Carpet event at Pickwick and Frolic, for more tickets and information visit their website for details!

Jennifer Lopez and her 'bubble packing wrap' dress...Oscars 2010

Lauren Hutton...oh my Lauren.  Well this takes us back to the Oscars in 2006 the shoes are cute and the pom-poms on the cuff too but in a toddler sorta way.

Cameron Diaz...my grandmother asked me to leave you a voicemail that she would like her curtains back after you were done borrowing them.  Aside from this just doesn't look fitted, haute couture or haute mess?

Menswear for charity...a collection drive supporting local organizations.

I was quite intrigued when I saw that they were looking for specifically menswear and truly you don't too often about guys calling in with their donations.  While they are taking all sorts of items I think is a great local opportunity to help out families in 'your own backyard'!

Friday Five: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

Hello Everyone! I am back from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and had a great time and have some pictures to share! Not only getting to see the collections come down the runway was a great job, but so was networking and talking to other bloggers and journalists that were there with the same goals. It's amazing watching the modern technology come together and create not just 'fast fashion' but also 'fast journalism."

The pictures below were taken by Nora (nora@ohiofashionista.com) for the benefit of the blog.  More pictures will be up and available on the facebook site.

Protecting yourself from snow glare...with sunglasses!

Tank tops, jeans, and chucky necklaces are all pieces in your closet that are worn year round. You might not have thought that sunglasses would also be one of them. But, just like wearing sunscreen in the winter, it’s important to not forget about your eyes. You might think you’re being fully protected from the sun by wearing a 15SPF in your makeup, but you’re really not. The area around your eyes in some of the some delicate surface on your body, so permanent damage is done easily. The good news in you finally have an excuse to wear big sunglasses. When the lens in big enough to protect the surrounding area, it’s also helping prevent wrinkles by keeping sun from touching this fragile area and keeping you from squirting at the sun rays. You might not even notice how much you’re squirting when driving and running errands. These Tory Burch sunglasses are a higher dollar because of the quality. It’s 100% UV A, B, and C protected. The lenses is also melted together, not spray painted like the cheap ones, so even if it gets a little scratched the protected won’t come off.

Classic Cat Eye by Tory Burch -  $150

Other kinds of sunglasses are polarized. This means the lenses have extra protection to stop glare caused by snow, water, and other elements. It can be helpful when playing sports and driving, and can even cut down on eye fatigue. With the snow’s reflecting sun into your eyes, take any extra help you can get.

Blog written by: Brittany Saylor regional writer for OhioFashionista.com from Kent.

Ray-Ban - $195

Fashion can sometimes also be function. You’ll probably need to try on several pair before you find your favorite one, but it’s worth it. Sunglasses are a fun and necessary part of every wardrobe. Whether you go for a classic Jackie O or a new DKNY, you can feel good about you’re next fashion purchase.

DKNY - Square Frame - $59 (sale while it lasts)

Cincinnati Fashion Week 2011
New Look, New Programs, and More

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CINCINNATI – January 31, 2010 – CINCINNATI FASHION WEEK 2011 announces the second annual celebration of art, fashion and design to be held in the city of Cincinnati. Scheduled dates are Monday May 9 – Sunday May 15, 2011. Founded in 2009, the industry driven platform offers a unique opportunity to nurture the next wave of major design talent by establishing an on-going presence of global fashion in communities across the Midwest.

Now in its second year, the movement holds true to its promise to bring fashion, retail, and philanthropy to the Midwestern forefront of style. To build upon its early success, Cincinnati Fashion Week has fine-tuned the official event programming to include an even higher level of national and international talent, higher learning opportunities, and deeper connections with Midwest retailers.

In addition to the new programming, a new logo and branding has been created on behalf of Landor Associates Cincinnati, a leading strategic branding consulting and design firm. “The support of the inspirational team at Landor amongst a young fashion movement, has demonstrated a common wealth in the artistic community that reaches beyond success, beyond politics, talent, and beyond mediums; in fact, it catches creativity right at the spark of inspiration, when the best use of our talents is to share them and inspire others to do the same,” commented Cincinnati Fashion Week founder Nathan Hurst.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
“Fashion is a lifestyle which adapts on a personal level, and reflecting this message for 2011 was most significant. To truly bring fashion to the Midwest, we must continue to have a dialogue about how we view fashion in our lives,” commented Nathan Hurst, Founder & CEO of Cincinnati Fashion Week.

In 2011, Cincinnati Fashion Week will evolve with the community it helped to establish by delivering what may be the largest fashion industry driven production seen within the Central Midwest.

Guests of official events at Cincinnati Fashion Week will be guided through a week of fashion inspired events led by national & international figures in the fashion community, including couture collectors, media personnel, fashion designers, retail historians, and much more.
Complete itinerary to be released within the coming weeks.

Carb alternatives...

This past week while talking to some local fans the discussion came up of winter weight and carbs.  Well it's of course an ice storm in Ohio and many are just relaxing inside and not getting out and moving about as we would on a nice and sunny day.

Here's a list of carb alternatives that I found in Prevention magazine that can help battle the winter carb blues:

Instead of......................... Try...
Mashed Potatoes                   Mashed cauliflower
Lasagna Noodles                   Egg plant (sliced)
White Flour                            Almond flour
Spaghetti                                Spaghetti Squash
Apple Pie                                Baked apples / raw apple
Granola                                   All-Bran
Orange juice                          Orange (whole)
Pizza crust                              Portobello mushrooms
Soda                                         Seltzer with Lime / Water
Potato Chips                          Peanuts or various nuts
