Big News...going to Fashion Week in NYC!

What a whirlwind weekend it was had a lot of fun being around peddling "wears" (literally) with my mom this weekend at a local show.  While we didn't rake in millions it's a lot of networking that really pays off in the end; alpaca products are something that takes a lot of education for a customer to truly understand the benefit of in the long run.

BUT in other big news I'll be NYC for Fashion Week in a few weeks!  I'm excited, as it's part birthday treat and part for school being at the Academy of Art runway show and classes.  I truly view New York City as the Mecca for those of us in fashion, while I probably would truly say that about any of the big four (Milan, Paris, London, New York) it's a the least the closest.  I'm very excited to go and research new ideas and share them with other Ohio fashionistas.

Goodbye Jeans, Hello Alternatives

Is anybody getting sick of wearing jeans every day? They are major part of just about every woman’s wardrobe. They do wonders for your shape and are super easy, but, if you’re getting a little tired of them, you’re not alone. Here are some fresh ideas that might help spice things up a bit.

Forever21 - $4.50

Leggings/Tights. If you hadn’t tried them yet, why not? They are comfortable, affordable, and stylist. You can wear them with a skirt, dress, or long top and they still keep you warm and covered. They come in all sizes, colors, and patterns, making it not only possible to wear a different pair every week (or day), but also fun. Try jeggings if you’re looking for a new, fashion forward style. Both go great with boots and heels.

Charlotte Russe - $19

Pencil Skirt. Pencil skirts are a wonderful stirrup to the basic grind at the office. Black, grey, and navy are all the primary colors that can be a girly way to start the week. By dressing them up or down with heels and jewelry, you can easily go from the office to drinks with the girls at happy hour. Try an animal print, like the one pictured, for a new and exciting spin.

Banana Republic - $89.50

Trousers. A good pair of trousers are probably the smartest thing a woman can have in her closet. They can be anywhere from white to black, flare leg to skinny, high waist to low rise. The possibilities are endless. They match everything and are easy to just throw on. Acceptable for work, shopping, and dinner dates.

Saks Fifth Avenue - $158

Jumpsuit. Erotic, Crazy, even a little misunderstood? Sure, it’s a jumpsuit. Are you ready for the challenge? It’s no secret that the jumpsuit will be slightly harder to pull off. That just means you’re turn more heads and get my compliments. Try pairing it with a jacket or your favorite heels. It’ll be a fun outfit to wear and it’ll get you out of the wearing jeans every single day.

FWC Finale Runway Show See what looks hit the runway at C-bus' first Fashion Week closer! Fashion Week made its debut in Columbus Oct. 11-18, shutting down much of the Short North in the name of upscale couture. The inaugural soiree, dubbed Fashion Week Columbus or FWC, moved downtown to The Athletic Club of Columbus, 136 E. Broad Street, for their finale runway show that brought in an enormous, standing-room only crowd. The show featured a dozen local artists, includi … Read More

Friday Five: Best and Worst 2010 Celebrity Fashions

Kim Kardashian- Kim is always one of the best dressed on the red carpet and the 2010 Gloden Globes were no different. She looks like a beautiful Roman goddess. Her hairstyle is perfect and the jewels at the top of the dress are divine.

Penelope Cruz- She looked stunning at the 2010 Golden Globes. She always looks fabulous and this is just icing on the Latina cake!

Sarah Jessica Parker- Some people have mixed feelings about SJP's look at the 2010 Golden Globes, but I think she looks spectacular! Coco Chanel would be very proud!

Taylor Swift- When she first emerged Taylor Swift was a cute little girl, but she has morphed into a beautiful woman. At the 2010 Grammy's she wore this beautiful blue bejeweled off the shoulder gown and she rocked it!

Tina Fey- Tina Fey is such a funny woman and at the 2010 Golden Globes she definitely made me laugh! This dress looks an upside down martini glass! It is such an awkward length, if it was just a little longer or a little shorter it would've been perfect!

Angelina Jolie- Angelina Jolie usually looks so beautiful and sophisticated, but in 2010 she has looked her all time worst! At the premiere for her movie The Tourist, she wore full length velvet gloves with a strapless velvet dress. As if the velvet  material and gloves aren't bad enough, but take a look at her hair! It's called a brush Angie!

Drew Barrymore- Drew has been in the acting game so long that she should know better than this! The blush color of the dress is very wrong for her skin tone and the "things" on her shoulder and hip look like sea urchins attatched themselves to her body!

Helena Bonham Carter- Really? Do I really have to go through everything single thing that is wrong with this look? I think the picture and the outfit speak, a little to loudly, for itself.

Ke$ha- This is one girl I just don't understand. She always looks terrible! I mean a mannequin head? Come on, who are you trying to impress? She picks out the feathers for her outfit's off of the side of the highway. No wonder, she looks like fashion roadkill!!!

Katy Perry- Katy Perry is a yo-yo dresser. Sometimes she looks good and sometimes she looks really bad, but this outfit over rides all of the good dressing she has done this past year.

Let's label this editors log since I have decided to jump up on my little soapbox today.  My goal for OhioFashionista.com has always been to promote local fashion whether it be shows, designers, trends, various events and even local blogs.  We aren't here just to toot our own horn, but love to help promote and toot the horn of others, and this week I would like to introduce to you a fun little blog I came across via Twitter, The Cosmopolitan Clevelander.

The blog is a fun reflection of Cleveland fashion, shopping, beauty tips and much more.  Christina the writer of the blog also makes the weather in Cleveland looks like it's not meant to be completely depressing with fun landscapes and outfits.

Golden Globes Fashion...Good, Bad, Ugly

While watching the red carpet entrances to the Golden Globes I was taking notes and cooing at the various dresses as they walked by. There were dresses I really liked, some that made me want to question various designers sanity and some that with a few tweeks would of been perfect.

I love this dress on Jennifer Lawrence - very elegant but yet still edgy - designer Louis Vuitton.  The length looks just right with a mini train that looks elegant but yet doesn't get in the way.

Oh Jennifer, Jennifer, Jennifer...where's the wedding?  Well that was my first thought and then after knowing the designer was Romona Keveza I was no longer surprised knowing she's primarily a bridal wear designer.  While I think the dress is pretty I agree with many others that say the collar looks like a crumb catcher and then the length just looks like they ran out of time hemming it.

January Jones wearing Versace at the Golden Globes this year, well this dress really stood out not just the color but the "innovative" use of ribbon fabric to create the bodice.  Compared to the rest of gowns on the runway this year, it took the cake for "ugly".

Editors note...these are opinions, and would love to hear what you think from the fashions at the Golden Globes 2011!

SillyBandz meets Farmville...

Farmville has gone viral, it's funny when you're just cruising through the internet and come across an ad that looks like the little Farmville animals but as SillyBandz.  For a while I thought SillyBandz, an Ohio company, was starting to fade out seems like they just continue to reinvent themselves.  I haven't seen as many adults wearing them as I was a few months ago especially in grocery stores and various retail environments.

Here are these new rubber barn yard creatures to enjoy:

Tuesday Trend: Snow inspired accessories...

Well fashionistas it's snowing, again.  Literally looking out my office window from around 2pm I watched about 4 inches of snow accumulate within 30 minutes.  While the heavy falling snow was actually very pretty it was nearly impossible to capture with the camera, the few photos I took it looks like invisible snow fall.  The snow is  a conspiracy, aside from coming from the south and Dayton looking like it was walloped with one huge snow ball.  Hopefully we get some relief from the snow before the weekend!

OhioFashionista.com Favorite Snow Inspired Accessories:

Contemporary elegance!

Snow-Covered Winter Berries Scrabble Tile Pendant Necklace

Unique! This big chunky scarf is perfect to hide in the way the wind has been howling!

Prehistoric fun...the creator loves these because of the stegosaurus look- quite unique!  I like the added benefit of still being able to easily drive with them being fingerless.
