News: Ohio's Abercrombie & Fitch closing up to 110 stores

Business has been down the this quarter for Ohio based Abercrombie & Fitch and although some stores have already closed in the first quarter (which honestly I haven't noticed in Northeastern Ohio) they say there will be more by the end of the year as leases begin to naturally run out.  (article here)

Here is an article from Citybizlist New York that has excerpts from a conference call between analysts and Abercrombie & Fitch.  From the excerpts it sounds like "C" malls will have their shops closed and the focus will be on "A" list malls that have higher sales volume, which makes sense.

I talked to the Abercrombie & Fitch and Summit Mall in Akron and the associates haven't heard if there store will be closing as they consider themselves a "b" level malls versus a "c" level such as Chapel Hill in Akron.  The associates I talked to had heard rumblings of store closing from other patrons but don't fear their location as they have a high sales volume.

Project Runway...viewing parties!

There really is no reason to miss any episodes of Project Runway this season - not only is the re-runs ran over and over but also the local viewing parties for those that don't have cable or power over the remote.  Hence is usually my case unfortunately when you live in a house of soccer players not much else is on the television.

Next viewing party is this Thursday - August 26 at Sushi Rock in Cleveland from 8-11pm - come out and enjoy a night of sushi and fashion!

Friday Follow - Blog: Dina's Days - African Safari

I was sifting through my blog list that I like to check daily while watching the storms roll through Myrtle Beach here in the quite rainy state of South Carolina.  This post inspired by a post on  Dina's Days blog that features African Safari fashions - necklaces, bracelets, and shirts.  Myrtle Beach looks like an exposion of all sorts of animal prints, this blog post by Dina hits close to home this week.

A few pics from the blog post that you too can visit here.

2nd Annual  - Get Empowered
Fashion Show Luncheon

The economy is in a downturn and domestic violence is on the rise. One in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and that is in a good economy.  When the economy is bad, that number begins to rise.

How does this affect you and your business? Any employee may be affected by domestic violence. More than half (56 percent) of businesses surveyed were aware of employees who have been affected by domestic violence.  What were the effects?

  • Thirty-seven percent of women who experienced domestic violence reported that the abuse had an impact on their work in the form of lateness, missed work, keeping a job, or career promotions.

  • In one study of BATTERERS, 41 percent had job performance problems and 48 percent had difficulty concentrating on the job as a result of their abusive behaviors.

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that the annual cost of lost productivity due to domestic violence equals $727.8 million, with more than $7.9 million paid workdays lost each year.

Help us keep these victims safe and self-sufficient. Help us restore their self worth and keep them productive.  Your generous donation will help the Battered Women’s Shelter of Summit and Medina Counties provide the following:
